Duck Hunt
..
A friend came by and dropped off these ducks in the right picture
today and Informed me they had taken them this morning while on a hunt
around Meruge, La while hunting on a rice field blind.
This morning was about 22 degrees with a slight to calm wind.
The ducks were flying low and they were pretty easy to call in.
Bill said they took all the ducks and a goose within an hour of shooting
time.
The ducks in the left picture were taken from the same place just last
week.
I have not gotten any reports from the Warren County or other areas
around the Mississippi Delta area as to date, When I do I will post
them here.
Good Job Bill, I know I will enjoy the duck feast this weekend!
Report From Lake Sentinel
On The Yazoo Canal
Vicksburg
12-2000
Seems a couple of duck hunters had a very good hunt this past week on
Lake Sentinel and Chotard Lakes.
On Lake Sentinel JR and a couple of friends got into the ducks over
the Christmas Holidays.
I was awaken by the sound of the truck pulling out from the nice warm
shop around 4:00 in the morning .
JR. and some of his friends were headed for Lake Sentinel to see if
they could catch some ducks coming in.
The morning was about 18 degrees and the wind was from the north west
at eight miles per hour, the wind chill was about eight degrees.
The river level was at about 13 feet on the Vicksburg gauge, which
is about the lowest level you can enter into the lake.
It's so odd that a duck has so much power over some people, that
the "Ole Duck" can drive some of the hunters so crazy they will get out
in such Cold nasty weather!
I bet the doctors and clinics love Duck Hunters.
Back to the story
JR and his friends seem to have had a pretty good hunt with the weather
so cold and nasty,
They all got their limits on ducks.
I saw JR and his buddies when they got back to the shop but they left
before I could get a picture of their game!
Today is January 4, 2001 Thursday
Today I got another duck hunt report from Bill, He and a friend,
Mike, went to Lake Sentinel early this morning around 5:00, Bill reported
they saw very few ducks on the lake.
After about 3 hours of no action they did get a shot at a flight of
Teal. They only got one of them out of about twenty.
The weather this morning was about 28 degrees with little to no wind
to speak of, it seems that when the wind blows the ducks seem to
be flying more often.
If you have the urge to hunt Lake Sentinel before this weekend I think
you might be able to get through the shoot on friday, however the Mississippi
River is dropping about half a foot per day and come Saturday I don't think
you would be able to get into the lake unless you have a small, light flat
bottom boat.
Report From Lake Chotard
Eagle Lake Area
Vicksburg
1-2001
I talked with Ed Pace tonight and Ed reported that he and a couple of
his friends had gone to Lake Chotard this past weekend and to their dismay,
did not take even a single duck!
However, they decided to take a chance at the Panther Swamp Area North
on Hwy 3 about 30 miles from Vicksburg.
Ed informed me they (about 3) of them got their limits at the Honey
Hole Ed found a while back.
Well folks, looks like we all need to go hunt in Louisiana to find the
ducks!
I got a report from Bill M. of Vicksburg, Ms. Seems Bill and his friend
Ron found themselves back in the rice field blinds on this cold 20 degree
day. The morning started off with a 3 through 5 mile per hour light
wind blowing from the south, Duck hunters call this type of day a
"Blue Bird" day, the ducks were coming from the south heading north.
Bill and Ron got their limits in a couple of hours of shooting time. Bill
said they probably could have shot ducks all day!
There seemed to be a pretty good mix of ducks and geese flying today.
The Pictures below will show the mix!

Report From The Panther Swamp Area

Ed Pace and his friend Scott From Edward's, Ms. reported they
had gone to Panther Swamp just 30 miles north of Vicksburg off hwy #3 to
see if the ducks were flying. Ed reported that the ducks were flying
and he and Scott only got four Teal ducks.
Ed said when they arrived at Panther Swamp there were a lot of hunters
from South Carolina in the area he usually hunts.
Ed also said the other hunters were in his hole so he and Scott
had to hunt another hole where the hunting was not as good.
However, they did have a good hunt even though the other hunters had
a better hunt, "with all the shooting" ed report the other hunters should
have been getting their limits.

Well folks, here is another pretty good duck hunt
report from Bill M. of Vicksburg.
Bill and his friend Ron went back to the rice
fields in La. this morning and reported that they again could have shot
ducks all day long!
This morning was a pretty good morning to be
hunting, the weather could not have been any better said Bill.
The temp. was in the 30 to 40 degree range and
the wind blew from the southwest at about 5 miles per hour.
Each of the hunters got their limit within a
couple of hours from sunrise. there was only one drake mallard in the bunch
of ducks Bill dropped off to me today and the others were of mixed ducks.
Good Hunt Guys!
Ed Pace and a friend went to Greenwood this weekend and returned
back to Edwards, Ms with bad news for the wife!
